Amazon Music, The Steady Climber in a Saturated Market

Music streaming is no longer just about audio. Platforms like YouTube Music are leading a new wave by offering a visually-rich experience that resonates especially with Gen Z and mobile-first users. Since 2019, Spotify has maintained its position as the world’s most popular music streaming platform, reaching 246 million subscribers by 2024.

Amazon Music might rank last among major music streaming platforms with 32 million users in 2024, but its CAGR of 35.5% tells a story of consistent, quiet growth.

Amazon’s Unique Appeal Amid Competition

Bar chart illustrating global music streaming platform subscriber growth from 2019 to 2024, showing Spotify leading with significant increases.

Unlike other platforms that target hardcore audiophiles or trend-savvy youth, Amazon Music appeals to casual listeners and smart home users. Bundled with Amazon Prime and integrated with Alexa-enabled devices, it benefits from passive adoption and ease of use.

Its library has expanded significantly, offering both free and HD tiers. Yet, its interface and recommendation algorithms lag behind leaders like Spotify or YouTube Music.

Amazon’s strength lies in its ecosystem. As more households adopt smart devices, Amazon Music stands to benefit from increasing embedded use. Its growth isn’t flashy, but it’s reliable.

With strategic improvements in UX and personalized recommendations, Amazon Music could secure a stronger foothold, especially in family and household segments.
